3 simple ways to be more productive

3 simple ways to be more productive

We all could use more productivity in our lives, amiright? You know, you get on your computer planning being super productive and get lots of work done….but then Facebook. An hour later, after you’ve caught up on all 101 groups you are in, you decide you really need to get down to business, but then you realize you left some laundry in the washer you need to take care of. Or your kids are still up and it’s past their bedtime. Or *insert a thousand different reasons here.* Sometimes you get to the end of the day and realize you really haven’t done any work at at all.

Here are a 3 simple ideas to be more productive.

3 simple ways to be more productive

Set a timer

If you’re having trouble getting started and getting down to business, set a timer for 25 minutes (or however long you choose). Work for those 25 minutes, then let yourself take a 5 minute break before setting the timer again and working for another 25 minutes. This technique actually has a name… the Pomodoro Technique. Traditionally, the timer is set for 25 minutes, but you can set it for longer if you think that works better for you. After a few work sessions you can give yourself a longer break. Having a set (short) time to get work done can help you be more productive, less distracted, and give more attention to the work that needs to be done. Try it and let me now how it goes!

Stay organized and have a system

Another tip is to make sure you stay organized! This way, when you sit down to work, you know what needs to be done. Having a system for things like graphics, content creation, etc, will help tremendously as well! One of my favorite sites to use is Trello. I love how it helps me stay organized. I can keep track of to do lists, keep track of my blog post ideas or social media posts, communicate with clients, and more! It is easy to move cards around to different lists and I can easily access it from either my computer or my phone. It’s a great way to keep myself organized!

I have also found that having a list of content ideas and content calendar has helped a whole lot! This is something that I invested in to have someone help me with….definitely a valuable investment for me! (Shoutout to Abby Herman – Write Solutions!) She helped me come up with lots of content ideas and put it together into lists and a calendar for future posts. So whenever I need to write a blog post, I can go to that file and find an idea to write about.

Batching and Automation

Batching and automating my posts and graphics is another thing that helps me to be more productive. I often sit down and create content and graphics for my Facebook page and Instagram all at the same time. My goal is to get at least a week’s worth created, then schedule them out. I create and schedule at least one post a day for the next week on each platform, then go back and a second post for each day if I have time.

I use Facebook’s business page scheduler for my page and Planoly for Instagram. (You can’t have a scheduler automatically post to Instagram for you, but this makes it super quick to post when it’s time!) I also use Tailwind for Pinterest (you can use it for Instagram, too). Once I get this done for the week, I know I don’t have to worry about creating and posting content on my social media pages for the week and can focus on other things I need to do.

7 Things I Stopped Doing In Order To Grow My Business

business growth

You often hear people talking about what they did to grow their business. But sometimes there are things you are doing that you need to stop doing in order to grow your business. Here is my list.

  • Doubting myself. Ah. This is a big one! It is so easy to let those thoughts of doubt creep in. You wonder if you are good enough, have the right skills or the right personality, you think maybe you can’t do it and are afraid you will fail. Guess what. Those doubts are holding you back from what you can accomplish! I ran across a quote recently that I love that says, “You are braver than you feel, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” I love that, because you ARE! We all have moments of doubt, but when they creep in you need to kick them to the curb and not let them define your success. Don't let your doubts define your success. Click To Tweet
  • Listening to my fears. This one kind of goes along with the last. Along with doubts come fears. Many times it is the fear of failure, but sometimes there can be a fear of success, as well. And that fear can hold you back from growing your business. Don’t let fear get in the way. Do it scared, just do it.
  • Comparison Do you ever look at another consultant or competitor and compare yourself to them and their success and just want to give up? Yeah, that happens to all of us at times. It is so easy to look at what someone else is doing and how great their business seems to be going and think we can’t do it, get jealous of their success, or feel inadequate. But just like an iceberg, we are only seeing part of what is going on and not what is underneath all of that success. We don’t see all of the hard work that has gone in to getting them where they are at now. Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle! Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle! • Copying and pasting others. Do you ever see what someone else is doing great and want to copy them so that you can get the same results? They post a fun graphic on FB and get lots of engagement on it, so you are tempted to steal their graphic and use it as well. Yes, I said steal. Because it is stealing! Don’t do this! Not only can it land you in FB jail and piss someone off, but it is illegal! You cannot just take graphics you find online (or on google!) and just use them for yourself! Don’t get yourself in trouble and/or get put in FB jail, or worse, sued and fined! Yes, it most definitely happens, so that is not a risk I am willing to take! Get yourself a free account on Canva.com and make your own graphics! There are also lots of phone apps that you can use to create cute graphics as well. Stand out and brand yourself! And while we’re at it, try to stay away from using your company’s graphics as much as possible. Yes, they are created for you to use, but if everyone in your company is using the same graphics, then you are not branding yourself and FB may decide to block you (put you in jail) because you are “copying” and not being original. • Sell, Sell, Sell. Is selling your products all you are trying to do with your business? There is so much more to a business than just selling a product! Don’t just sell, sell, sell. Build relationships! Engage! Be authentic! Get to know your audience! Make sure they are able to get to know you, like you, and trust you before you try to hard sell them anything. Work at building authentic relationships and the selling will follow. If you are in direct sales, check out my post, How to Sell as a Direct Seller, or my post on Resources for Direct Sellers!
  • Doing it alone. Do you ever think you have to do it all alone in order to succeed? Most of the people who have thriving businesses did not get there by themselves. They had other people alongside them encouraging them and giving them advice along the way. Don’t have someone like that? Find someone! Is your upline not helpful or non-existent? Don’t let that stop you, find someone else. Maybe it’s another consultant, a different upline/team, or your downline. Maybe it’s a business coach you find or a friend or someone in a FB group for direct sellers or entrepreneurs. If you don’t have any support in your business, I would encourage you to check out two groups on FB: The Socialite Suite with Brenda Ster and Social Super Group with Jilleysue. They are both fantastic groups with lots of advice and encouragement.
  • Negative talk. Your mindset and self-talk can really make a difference in your success. I didn’t used to really believe it, but I do now. When you believe in yourself and think and speak positively about yourself and your business, your positivity will affect your outlook, your confidence, and your business. Come up with some positive affirmations and mantras (even if they are not yet completely true) and start speaking them every day. Write them down somewhere will you will see them every day to remind yourself. Mine is, “I attract motivated direct sales leaders who want to do business with me. I am the direct sales website woman.” Check out Inspired Ivy on FB for more on this topic.

So there you have it. 7 things you need to stop doing in order to succeed in your business. What are you going to do about it? Did one (or more) of these 7 items stand out to you? Which one are you going to stop doing? Tell me in the comments! I’d love to help you along your journey!

Business Tools I Love

Business Tools I Love

Hi there! Thanks for joining me over here at Melissa Mackey Brand Co! Are you a small business owner, entrepreneur, or direct seller? Do you have certain tools that you use to help your business or social media run more smoothly? Today I wanted to share some of my favorite tools I use for my business!

Business tools I love

My planner. I used to go to Target, buy a cheap planner, then use it once or twice and forget about it. This year I invested in a Passion Planner. I LOVE my new planner! The squares on the monthly view are the perfect size for some post-it notes and I use them to color coordinate and plan my FB posts! It’s a great visual for me to see what kind of variety of posts I am sharing and a great way to plan out my month. Then all I have to do is create the graphics, write, and schedule the posts!

Trello. A new favorite website/app of my is Trello! I LOVE it for keeping track of to do lists, ideas for blog posts or social media posts, communicating with clients, and more! I love how I can move cards around to different lists and I can easily access it from either my computer or my phone. It’s a great way to keep myself organized!

Canva. I use this site ALL the freaking time! Every graphic that I create was created in Canva. It is super easy to use and I can whip graphics out like nobody’s business in minutes! I use the paid feature, Canva for business, so that I can save my branding colors and fonts and access them easily, but the free version works great as well.

Facebook biz page scheduler. Did you know that you can easily schedule posts right from your Facebook business page? Yep! I use it all the time! I often have a week or more of content planned out and scheduled (that is, when I’m on top of things…). It is so convenient and you don’t have to use any outside 3rd party apps! This is only for business pages, so you will need to use a different app/site for groups/events (I suggest either Cinchshare or Post My Party).

Design-seeds is a fantastic resource to research color and different color palettes! Not sure of your brand colors yet? Need some inspiration? Go to this website and get inspiration galore! Those are just a few of my favorite tools that I use. I’m sure that I will be sharing a Part 2 to this post one of these days, because there is so much more that I could share! But on to bigger and better things for now….like designing your website, perhaps? 😉

Share with me in the comments….what are YOUR favorite tools, websites, or apps that you use for your business! Props if you mention one I don’t already know about 🙂
